    Hi,

I've got a client that wants to be able to share files between their various offices, clients and suppliers. Depending on who logs-in they need to be able to restrict access to certain files.

I've been quoted £500 for initial setup and then a further £500 a month to cover hosting, suppport and maintenance. That's £6500 for the first year alone, seems very expensive but I don't have any experience in this area so I might be wrong.

Anyone have any knowledge on this sort of thing? Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Andy

That's what they have at the moment.

They want to be able to limit file access privileges so one client can't be going in there and downloading a load of stuff they're doing for another client.

For web access to clients folders, we just use a directory (with indexing off) where we put the clients folders (with indexing on)... and occasionaly use .htaccess to require a password... all cheap (free) but basic.

Actually is this just for individual files or a live site within your main website structure?

Would be nice to have a login script to handle getting them to the right directory...where they just use their email adress and password without having to know the directory names, and it gives them a list... can't see this costing more than a few hundred ££'s to setup, and no ongoing costs.

Thanks Brett, it's just for sharing individual project files. I'm looking into the basic options you mentioned at the moment and they don't seem to be very hard to set up, webmonkey.com has a tutorial on the htaccess stuff that looks ok. Definitely more ok than £6500. I should have looked into this before going to my mate's company for advice!
