I'm seriously thinking about possibility of moving to London. I came to US 2 years ago and it sucks big time. I just can't understand wtf is happening here.

Seriously Burty...I mean what happened to the market? Everything is so slow, people struggling to live normally man. I mean come on of course that I didn't expect millions but this is shit man. Everywhere I went to find work I was overqualified. Companies are willing to pay like 15-20 bucks per hour and we all know that that's just not enough. The creative director position or art director position is like 40-50k. I don't know on what drugs are these guys from salary.com when they post those salaries by region. I mean come on. You can make probably 80-100k in CA but the costs of living are so high that it boils down to same shit. And I'm not talking only about myself. I know people like with damn MBAs and stuff having difficulties to get a job as well. And starting a business...phew that's even worse. Banks, insurance companies and big corps are just untouchable and suck you dry, and you can't avoid them at all.

I've also been told I was overqualified... Is that like the new excuse thing not to hire someone or something? Surely "overqualified" is a good thing? Right?

I'm very glad for you qburt, however as I said before you fall into very very small percentage of people like that. When did you get the job you're at now? Contacts? Not everyone is fortunate enough to meet the right people and most people rely on cold job search. If it's that great let's all move to California. I mean if the salaries are great then there's no need to look anywhere else. However I'm not 100% sure that all creative professionals do extremely great even in CA.
