i am going to ireland the second week of august, flying in to shannon and staying along the southwest coast...can anyone offer any suggestions of cool things to do/see other than the stuff you read about in the travel guides?...

Well these suggestions might be touristy, but all well worth experiencing:
The Cliffs of Moher (Clare)
The Burren (Clare)
Connemara (Galway)
Galway City
The Ring of Kerry
Kenmare, Dingle, Killarney (Kerry)
West Cork in generalTis a beautiful part of the country you're visiting - have fun!

yep - it's 10.20pm now and just getting dark.
expect the weather to be all over the place though. it's beautiful one minute and then pissing rain the next.
probably why we're a nation of alcaholics ;)

Kinsale in cork is a great pissup town, dingle and skull are nice little towns to, but i agree with style.. the ring of kerry is the most beutiful part of ireland.
I going back there in august too, looking forward to long nights drinkin bulmers
