Chances are looking good that I'll be moving to Hong Kong sometime between August and October.
My gf is an HK native and making the move with me, so I'm not going it alone. We also spent a week there last December, so it won't be completely alien to me.
Any advice from Newstoday's Hong Kong contingent for a web coder moving to your town?
:D

are you down w/the cantonese?

you need to go out to places outside of the luxury sometimes, like central. in order to understand the high social hierarchy. to me, both sides can be beautiful, and ugly at the same time.

Kodap, no Cantonese ability unfortunately.
I've got an interpreter in the person of my gf and, workwise, this shouldn't affect me much as I work mostly from home now and have gotten the thumbs up from my colleagues.
Still, I would imagine that there will be some interesting moments in day to day living interesting until I acquire some Cantonese language skills.

that was my question, actually :D
I don't know anything about hong kong. I ask because my wife is a Mandarin Chinese speaker, and I'd like to learn. We had a plan to go to Taiwan a while back, but then SARS hit and we made other plans...

good luck, though, it's not an easy language to learn..
