i need advice. i graduated last year from art school, and now im working a fulltime job. it just susks, because i haven't done anything creative in such a long time. (i kinda came to this site for inspiration from you guys)
have you ever felt like you couldn't do anything? or that you're stuck and cant create? my brain isn't working. i initially took a break because i had just gotten out of school and i was sick sitting in front of the computer for days. but that break has turned into a year, and i want to start up again, but can't. and its hard because i work a 9-5 and when i get home at like 8 everynight im exhausted.
i just dont have any motivation it seems-i dont know why. any suggestions from you guys would be lovely. someone help my brain work again:(

I went through a similar scenario after graduating, you work so hard in school that you do burn yourself out for a while and you just need to take a break.
Creativity doesn't come easily to everyone, sometimes you have to find where you are comfortable. I definitely recommend a change of environment as soon as possible. This will definitely put you in a new place where you can start thinking again.
Also try switching the materials that you are working in, if you're doing too much digital work get out a pad and pencil and just draw (which is always my first step in the creative process). For inspiration look at different types of art, try and get to the art museum or a book store.
These are just some things that help me, I hope you can get something from it. Good Luck.

Just leave everything and everyone behind and travel. Even it's just half an hour away from where you live just go someplace beautiful which you never visited before. Grab a cam, pencil and paper and let the beauty find you for a change.

yah, similiar position. You make do, if you have a full time job that pays a salary and you've got benefits and such, stick it out as long as you can while working on your creative work and portfolio in your own time. Think about that stuff constantly when you're doing the job you don't like and sooner or later you're going to be able to get in to what you want to do.

take up graffiti.
you can do it late night so it won't interfere with work. it's more addictive than crack if you're still young. in 6 months you'll have more stories and adventures than you've had in the past 6 years. done correctly, it's more creative than any other art form.

same situation now.. except i get some creative stuff from time to time.. but i am still feeling burnt out....
To get my going i simply watch movies and go out and not think about design.... then I ussually do something on the side that is design related to get my juices flowing.. but mainly the best thing to do is get out there and enjoy something not design related.... when you come back you will be ok and stuff will start coming to you design wise

I was in the exact same position. Working for fuckheads, doing chump work for chump clients for 10 months. Burnt out totally, had no inspiration. Went to Semi-permanent, came home inspired as hell!!! Now i have a new job workin for a great company. Dont do as much creative work but that has served me quite well as now when i get home im keen to design, paint, screenprint, design for friends etc... And when i do get creative jobs at work its for really good clients(generally) and i go home and design and paint what ever the hell i want for myself.
Way more fun.I guess my only advice is; Dont put your heart and soul into designing something that will not be appreciated by the client or anyone else especially yourself. Cos chances are they'll end up makin it look crap in the end and all your creativity is gone to waste. Do what you have to do at work and save your creativity for your own shit that you love to do.
