Has anyone ever seen this movie?

Apparently there was a genre of Japanese filmmaking in the late 60s and early 70s that had ghosts at the center of their stories. A friend was telling me about this specific film and how amazing it was. I'm now obsessed and have only been able to find it for sale on Amazon.co.uk, but I'm in the states.

don't know where you can find it, but I'm sure if you go to a japanese store, that sells videos, they might be able to get it for you. Just find a Japanese town.
also there is a chinese movie that is simliar to that you mentioned.

I actually looked for Chinese Ghost story for years, but could only locate the non-dubbed, non-subtitled one. I've since seen those versions around, but haven't watched yet.
But, you know, they're not really that similar. The difference in genres is that the Japanese versions are far more mythical, fire-and-brimstone than the Chinese versions which are often more tongue-in-cheek and whimsical. I prefer the former to the latter.

got a buddy searching the Japanese p2p networks now.

The storyline, loosely, is about a wife and mother who are brutally raped and burned to death by a group of samurai. Their charred bodies are then discovered by two black cats that start to lick them clean.
The two women become some sort of cat-like ghosts that lure samurai into a bamboo forest and drain them of their blood.
This movie was released in 1968.

Definately this one, classic.

Not really ghosts, but Battle Royale is another good, frightening Japanese movie.

I'll look that one up.
