This is kind of a matrix thread but not, so don't fear...
How is it that people rave about how The Matrix is so cool... but when you see someone walking down the street dressed in all the 'get-up', they look a complete C***

because film and real life are different.

hahaha i agree!

true.... there some complete twats out there in their long leather jackets and wanky shades... c*nts!!!!
- unknown0
Perhaps someone should tell them that... (AND TAKE THOSE BUFFALO TRAINERS OFF FOR GODS SAKE!)
- ********0
there's a guy here who's worn the same tatty long leather jacket come rain or shine for YEARS always wears shades and never has any expression on his face.....evidently he thinks he is über cool, everyone else thinks he is the C*NT incarnate...

i would like to talk about those who said: "yeah, this film is so intelligent and philosophic, it made me think so much......". oh my god, those are the same who read stuff from john grisham and love to see themselves as a reflexive, independent... blabla...

i'm living out of a hotel in london at the mo (long story involving my bathroom ceiling falling in), and all weekend they had a Buffy Convention in there. about 300 teenagers. all the guys had bleached blonde hair and wore ankle length leather coats, shades, and buffalo boots (ala Spike apparently). i couldn't walk in the bar or lobby without cracking up with laughter - and i was the one getting the funny looks!
girs were good though, all with tight jeans and cropped tops (ala Sarah Michelle Geller).
mmmmmmmm, Sarah Michelle Geller

Aye, I think they just haven't caught on that life's film stock and lighting crew isn't as complimentary as they'd like to think it is.
Couple of the long/strappy jacket and sunglasses types down here, i'm sure they're nice enough blokes but they look like they've been kicked out of a very specialist brothel.

I think u people are just envious.
;-p

dude, what are you talking about? I'm rockin the leather coat and shades right now... then at random times I bend down and act like im gonna fly away, at other times i'll turn to a complete stranger and say "i know kung fu".. to which they'll respond "show me". sometimes i like to start running really fast and try to run on the wall.... everyone thinks im cool. i think you're just jealous

it'll all pass, but not without your full resistance to the modern Dark Age of advertisting and non imaginative special effects. So, ask yourself, not so much, what is the Matrix, but what is the matrix of stupidity from which ad execs, filmmakers, graphic designers, musicians, and the average young adult bury themselves?

people like that just need something to cling to. reality can be hard to swallow for some. i equate it with (though i probably shouldnt) religious zealotry and alcoholism/drug abuse. everyone has their preferred method of escape.
my method? i am an alcoholic struggling with sobriety. maybe i need a trench coat. . . and some glasses. . . and some porn.
anyway, just wait til wait til Underworld comes out. Buffy meets the Matrix. oh sweet jebus.

"non imaginative special effects"
i dont get that loudubs...
- ********0
neither do i....
no matter how well a film is made...or how watchable is might be....if it is somehow related to the realm of sci-fi, horror, fantasy, psychedlic (?), it includes special effects of a certain texture that never matches the rest of the film...they stick out like a sore thumb....it stinks....suckas need to get back with miniatures, models and optical effects or something.
- quamb0
though i guess special fx always have stuck out, though now as they get more 'real' it seems we actually are finding them less real.
personally- i think its due to the fact that hollywood throws the cgi shots at the audience (hey check me out!) with too-perfect sweeping camera movement and crescendos to the 'money shot'.
- ********0
well, thats a good oberservation in my opinion, but i would disagree and say that CGI effects, though sometimes a necessary evil as in LOTR...where they are best integrated, do not actually look more real....never will....they are not organic.
