G5: is G4 screwed?

i just started school and i ordered a G4 two weeks before the "big announcement" at a huge discount through my school. it's a fairly nice package (i'll be using it for graphic design in newsdesign/web) - but then the Cheese Grater comes out. Apple Store doesn't sell G4 anymore. my computer won't come in until move-in day - so should i return all of it and try for a G5 instead? i'd end up with 2500usd in the end - not enough for even a base G5, cheap monitor, and photoshop acd. any suggestions?
i'll probably have to just make do, i know. timing sucks.

Just cos it's new doesn't mean it's necessary...

I'm starting to despise my g4 733. It works great when I'm working on one thing at a time, but when I start multitasking it's split second delays is starting to bug me. ie, it takes about .5 a second to redraw pallettes in flash... switching between that and photoshop, the delays start adding up...
the 1.25 duals my coworkers have don't seem to be so bad... dammit I hate being on the bottom of the ladder...

i looked a bit at the "missing manual" for switch.my mac also come qiht just os x - is the jag update worth it?

get jaguar, don't use anything older. it's worth it. panther looks hot.
don't worry, the G4 is going to be around for a long time. apple has stated the powerbooks will have G4 chips for a long time to come (which sucks)

I have a 12" Powerbook G4. You can fry an egg on that thing. I can imagine how much hotter it would be with a G5 in there. Until Apple figures out how to make a laptop that will burn your legs to a crisp they should probably hold off on putting anything other than a G4 in there.

fuck it, it's only a tool. i got a 500 ibook at home and a 1.25 in the studio... now that bitch makes me wanna get to work.
pens, pencils, sprays, paper that's where it's at.
