I hate this full time nonsense!!! Most of my friends have these sweet part time jobs and are at the beach right now! while im stuck in this hell hole rotting in my misery. If I didn't need money so bad I would quit so fast my damn boss's head would spin!!
PHEW! Sorry i had to vent my frusturation. Who else would listen to me?

I work one full-time job (design) and one part-time job (non-design) and I'll try to keep them both when starting my 3rd semester in late august.

But are your friends making full time money, enjoying life with health benefits, saving money, etc?
How old are you, and their average age? Just curious.
I'm 25, and yah, I do miss hanging out all day doing nothing, would love to sit at home and do Flash and PS and play Tony Hawk and play guitar and record music and mountain bike and watch dvd's and go to the beach now that it's warm out (Chicago) and go to bookstores all the time and go to the skatepark every day...
But you hit that point when thinking about the future is alot more important than spending every day doing nothing, basically.
I work M-F 8:30-5:30

I work one full time job... but I work as a designer... really can't complain...
Cause I know a number of designers looking for work around here... and can't find anything

I'm 22 and living on Long Island in New York. I have a mixed bag of friends. I guess im just jealous of the ones 18-20 yrs. old. My older friends are in the same predicament as I am.
Man I remember the days when I would sleep till 12, beach all day and goof off.... DAMN SCHOOL LOANS!!! DAMN RENT!! DAMN CAR INSURANCE!!

i agree with mg.... i have friends that work part time or something, but they have crappy cars crappy apts and no money. i am more then happy to work m-f 830-530ish and then go home and do freelance and be able to live quite comfortably (knock on wood)

welcome to "adult life"....

I work fulltime and its decent money, ok clients too. Its only ruined by the odd shit job and long hours.
If I ever won the lottery, I'd just become a fulltime student for the rest of my life. Oh how I miss being a lazy bastard..
- subSTANCE0
haaaa... shit...
I am 20... and I am AM in adult life I think... well not that I act it... but I have a full time design job like you guys... except I seem to much younger... I don't know if I like that or not!...
However I currently plan to go back to University/College... just not sure what I want to do yet!... hmmm...

I am 27 and work full time design.
There are peaks and lulls, but such is life. Money is good and i get to design on a regular basis.
My friends are of mixed age - some work random jobs and some are in school. No one i know is in the design biz.

yup. i think that out of my friends, i am one of the few that has a good fulltime job.
i envy them because they get drunk in the middle of the day, they can smoke pot and not be drug tested, and they can go to the beach anytime they feel like it.
they envy me because i work and save cash.strange to think that my friends are my age and have no money saved up and no hopes for the future. in college, everyone seemed like they would do something incredible... now it seems that everyone is just settling in for eventual death.
- subSTANCE0
woah... pretty grim outlook there Bio, don't ya think?

i work full time and some, at least 12 hours a day, pretty much everday..got a lot of stuff going on constantly, its not good really.
full time job, constant freelance stuff and trying to get my skateboard company going.
major stresss out, but its good, the work that i get is work that interests me, dont think i could handle it if i was designing stuff for things that i couldnt give a shit about
- Bio0
yea. i suppose so, subSTANCE.
at the moment though, i dont feel the future is hopeless for ME. i think my friends are just "settling in for the ride" with no goals.sure, my goals might be odd, but at least i have some and am working for it... my friends just dont seem to care anymore. they want to work and spend everything. living from check to check. which is fine when you are in school and goofing off, but once you are out and start working...
ah well. i guess i am just sad for some of them. they could do so much. . . but they dont do anything.
- unknown0
eventual death...that's one way to look at it.
It's strange when you hit a point in life when you can notice the effects of income, of acheiving something, of noticing that people around you, your friends, you're very similiar but it becomes obvious that some of them really aren't going anywhere.bio, did you go to school?
- subSTANCE0
hmmm... yeah... I should not replied above, Bio, as if I don't know what you are talking about though... cause I do, for sure...
I have a couple of friends too who seem to be falling victim to the same fate... out of school... working some crappy job... and show no signs of motivation to do anything else... and I agree... I kind of feel sorry for them... but I also feel they have brought it upon themselves... which makes it harder to muster any sympathy

I agree we all are resposible for our own choices.
I chose a path of working for the future when I was 22. And my friend chose to move to Co. and snowboard every day. I envy him at times but then I realize that I am exactly what I want to be.
