Is it a generally difficult program to learn?
- table0
No, it is not.
- quamb0
the hard part is working out how to do what you want to do.
just like pshop or a 3dapp, whatever.
ie- "hmm i got this idea, now how am i gonna pull this off?"

its a kind of photoshop with a timeline. the rest is just the same stuff. layers, effects.... blabla

you'd be mad to try and figure it out just by playing with it, a bit different to photoshop as the terminoligy is different and a bit different to flashs time line... i cant recomend this book highly enough... jump right in tutorials

if you're serious about paco you can't pass the meyers books

the only way to learn is by farting about with it. Manuals are for geeks.

thats right, some hours of farting and thats it! we are not talking about actionscript or dhtml

I went and bought After Effects Most Wanted and It was mostly shite bar a few good projects.
After completing the first tutorial it got me extremely comfortable with AE, then i farted............about.
That was around after xmas time, since then ive done titles for broadcast and short films and lots of my own stuff.........
you'll get the hang of the basics very easily, the rest, you learn along the way.

yeah usually i'm not down with books but the meyers books proved invaluable...i farted around for a while first though then got the vol. 2...vol. 1 seemed a little useless

Thanks everyone. Sounds promising.

Yeah, if you are familiar with tweening, key frames, and PS, it'll just take a tutorial or two and you've got it.
The hardest part is the patience. "Ok, lets blur this for 10 seconds....nope, let's try again...." and quickly hours pass...
