for those who aren't too keen on the case, you might want to take more into your critique of the design than aesthetics.
I'll gladly sacrifice curvey plastic for a dual 2Ghz that's quite as a mouse because of the case's airflow design.

Can anyone care to explain to me what's the difference between firewire 40 and firewire 800? Can the Canon GL2 utilize the new firewire 800 coming with the thing?

hey Tan,
the Canon GL2 uses firewire 400, as does most products out there. there is no such thing as firewire 40, so i can assume that was a typo!
your canon GL2 will be fine, as it will use the firewire 400 port, or the firewire 800 port...

biggest problem with the G5 is the 64bit processor is that nothing will be able to run on it for quite some time.
funny, how they had to get a big pc name to help them build a decent apple. the other oddity is that intel has had a 64bit processor for years (Itanium). problem is that to run 64 bit on windows would mean redoing the OS completely. not an easy task.
all in all it will be interesting to see what apple is able to do with this G5. i still have my heart set on a G4. looks way better. if i wanted an aluminum case i would get a lian li box.

ah, i dunno -- that's stretching things a wee bit there, since besides the DEC Alpha, MS shipped a 64bit version of XP in March, and the Opteron & Itanium procs have been out quite a while.
in fact, you've been able to get a dual Opteron box for months. which would have been a much better thing to compare the G5 against than the P4 / Xeon matrix it's lined up against.
Gotta give it to Apple on the pricepoint though -- $3k is a hell of a lot less than I thought they'd release it for. Nice machine there.
