you could use a 'poster hanger'
they're like these two bars that you slot over the ends of the poster top & bottom and then it weighs it down and keeps it all straight and nice..........
they sell them somewhere online, can't remember where........... check some of the major music/movie poster sellers........
cheers

a bar of ferric metal attached to the wall and a magnetic bar on top of the poster to hold it.....

by sheets of plexiglass, sized just a few inches bigger than the posters, all the way around..
sandwich the poster between two sheets of the plexiglass.
bolt them in all 4 corners with fatass industrial bolts.
my old AD did this at JKL advertising, of their best work...
looked 100% fucking awesome..and costs peanuts..
very hip looking...very very cool and very cheap...
can't be it..

great thread. the metal/magnet idea and the plexiglassidea are excellent.
I just ordered some posters from http://www.pushposters.com a few Radiohead posters and some are the large wall sized.
I don't like the hangers because eventually wind moves them, from a fan or windows, and I think you need to have them somehow fastened to a wall. What do you think the plexiglass thing would weigh for the large wall sized posters?
When I was in architecture school everything in the common areas was mounted behind plexiglass-student work, posters, etc. looked excellent.

the plexi idea sounds cool. for added coolness screw a 4"x4"x2" high block of wood into a stud on your wall.
then take a block of 2"x4"x2" high wood and attach to the back of the plexied poster dead center with liquid nails. then all you have to do is set the poster onto the block of wood and bling bling you have a 'floating' poster framed in plexiglass.

the plexiglass thing would look excellent against exposed brick, if you lived in a loft or something.
I'm hoping for such a place in a few years.

some great ideas - I may stick with the poster clips - seems less of an effort and while I am moving I dont want to bother - but the plexiglass idea is a great one
thanks

If you're going to use thumbtacks, a good thing is to put a few layers of paper behind the poster where the pin will go through.
prevents the poster from tearing as much from the pin when on the wall.
