I stumbled upon some old bonds my grandmother had given to me as a gift (bless her soul).
So instead of using them on some inane payment, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to purchase the one thing I've wanted for a while. A nice camera.
Anyone have anything to say about this Sony? I've heard some good things.
Maybe there's some others I should look into as well?
Thanks much!

No haven't heard anything about the sony. I heard that the canon slr 10 i think is pretty tight i was going to get one but after tax and all that jazz it's 3000 canadian.

What kind of money are you talking? If you've got enough, go for a digital camera that functions more like an SLR camera as opposed to a normal point and shoot (which I think the Cyber Shots are mostly)

I'm hanging around the $800 area.
One of the reasons I was looking at this particular model was that CNET mentioned it was a nice camera for people switching to digital from 35mm SLRs.

I use a cyber-shot... I haven't used another digital camera since I've been using that one for ... I don't know... well over 2 years...
so it's an older one, I can't even find it on their site... but it's seriously one of the best purchases I've ever made. I can't compare it to other digital cameras since this is my first one..
The pictures always come out pretty decent. You can set it to aperature , or shutter speed preference for low-light photos.. even though it's not fully manual, it works pretty well.
I really like the display.. I don't know if it's the same on the new ones, but mine swivels around like a camcorder.. makes it easy to take pictures at weird angles.
No complaints.

The swivel display sounds like a real plus. I have a hard time getting a lot of the shots I want due to harsh angles.

http://www.ol0lo.com/Malaysia200… that is our photogallery from a recent trip to Malaysia.. all the photos that say Author:Ethan are taken on my cyber-shot ... there's a lot of crap in there though..
I took this with a long shutter speed setting to get the silky water look... kinda cheesy, but there ya go: http://www.ol0lo.com/Malaysia200…
