hey all...
I've got a 12" pbook with 256mb of ram and it's just not cuttin it for me. Should I get the 256 upgrade or go all the way and get the 512mb upgrade? Does it really make that much of a diff?

you can never have enough.

hehe yah, generally I suppose that's true, but is it worth spending 100 for?
- Q0
i would get 1 gig. what are you using the Pbook for??
- andre_k0
well u cant get a gig on a 12" by default, HOWEVER, a friend of mine just replaced the built in ram chip with a 512 one. Meaning that you could indeed get a gig of ram in it.

I'm mostly using it for photoshop, dreamweaver, premeire and dvd studio pro. It slows down quite a bit when I have most of those open (obviously) so I'm thinking I'll just go with the 512 addon.
Andre_k how did your friend do this? Was it easy?
- Krimzen0
Q the pbook comes with 128 built in and 128 removable. Basically you can get either a 256 or 512 to replace the removable.
640mb should do fine for what I want to do right?

upgrading to 512 made all the difference in the world to my pbook...put as much as you can in there and it is worth what you pay (prolly not more than $100 - $150)...i can edit video fine on my machine in final cut w/ 512 so you should be alright
- Krimzen0
do you have the 12 inch 867mhz pbook?
I've found 512 for $100 on http://www.creative.com seems reasonable.
- instantok0
actually i have an old pbook g3 500mhz...thats why i said you would be fine editing video w/ a new pbook...same RAM as me but a faster processor...$100 for 512 is a good deal and well worth it...when i went from 128 to 512 it was like i had a whole new machine

oh my god...why in the name of shiva h. vishnu are you using premiere on mac?!?!?!?!?
that is foresaking the gift of better software.
- pand40
premiere works dude, and it was around waaaaay before FCP, just because is not the most popular, it doesnt mean that it doesnt get the job done, also, are you offering to buy him a copy, maybe he allready has a premiere License, and doesnt want to pay for FCP.
and if is your choice to use illegal SW, rock on, but some of us, actually suck it, and do with what we have.

haven't tried final cut pro but I'll check it out. Thanks for the input guys/gals I'm placin my order tomorrow :)
