I am in the market to purchase a CHEAP yet dependable 100g+ firewire drive for use with my g3 laptop. I also need a firewire card for the bus slot as well.
Any things to be on the look out for? Cheap online dealers?
Can a pc card be used or do i need a mac specific card?

buy a firewire case instead [$100] and pop your own HD in there, it'll be cheaper in the long run

what you need is like a generic case and a decent IDE drive
always has good prices and shipping deals
dont know anything about the card though.

thanks for the tips- i have been lookin on www.pricewatch.com- seems like some deals
do i need 5400RPM or 7200RPM? whats the diff?
how are the drives powered? through the cable? or is there a power cord?

5400 will suffice, the case comes with an IDE power cable in the inside, you plug in the drive like you would inside a computer.
