Well I have a Cadillac prototype CD presentation down in Shockwave that has among other things a timeline, though it's not finished. Showcase is operational and history timeline works when you click 1911-1921 and 1951-1960. Two active cars are top right one and top middle one. As I said it's a prototype (under heavy development). Btw parts of the timeline are down in Flash and then embedded within Director.

btw, my budget for the design / flash of the timeline with about 10 dates (10 layouts with pictuires and texts) is about 1500 $. Do u think it's ok ?thanks for your ideas and links guys !

well zef666 I would charge way more then that, but I guess it all depends how much information goes into the timeline, if it's like one or two images and a sentance of two of text then it might be ok, otherwise reconsider. Oh and yeah it all depends on your experience too, how fast you can finish the project.

the price is actually the budget i have for a designer to do a timeline in flash : with about 10 dates, each date with a text and a visual.. and a scroller.
that's all. i mean i don't want anything else.

it's like this:
If you want to have cool transitions, to make it look slick and stuff, I don't think that any serious Flash developer/Designer will do it for less then $2000, and that's imo very questionable. Especially if you do it dynamically, meaning that the content needs to be updated from the db. Don't get me wrong you can probably find someone to do it for $1500 or even less but it's all matter of time/visual appearance and good implementation. The bottom line here is whether you think that your designer is worth more then that or less. I know this is a tough one, and if you are very limited with budget and if your designer is truly worth the penny, I would suggest trying to develop a 2 way system. If he asks for more money you should try to find a solution where you will spend the money you have but you will do something that will help that designer to get more projects. Well that's at least what I do with my clients that are tight with budgets. At the end there's always a solution, it's just good business spirit.Hope this helps you a bit.

http://www.bodysong.com is a 3D timeline that you can move through... each image is a soht form the film in order... Enjoy.

oh, forgot to mention text is dynamic. could use xml. this simply reads from a .txt. i was still using F5 at the time. easy to add images and slider too.

for a timeline, i had to find a flash guru to do a nice timeline for my company with some nice transitions, a nice scroller, and some interactivity too of course. it starts in 1894 until today with about 10 different dates
it has to go inside the history page of our site.. and i was not sure i could achieve in flash something like that , so we paid someone.. and i 'm quite happy i managed to get 3000 bucks for it.. i know it's not lots.. but i think it's fair..and we don't ask for anything spectacular. just smooth and nice
