i've done this before but can't remember now...
i have two layers. the background layer is a solid color. the top layer has random brush strokes but they're a different color. i need to get the brush strokes the exact color of the background. i remember doing this before using the paint brush and just painting over the brush strokes and only effecting the strokes with that exact color.
sorry about the bad description. does anyone know what i'm saying?

turn on save transparency and fill the layer?
or if not use the color range to select all the brush strokes and then filling that
