Have any of you folks experienced bad results from importing PNG's with transparency into Flash? Normally I stick to bmp's and create a mask for odd shaped images, but PNGs with transparency would make things way easier...

png's are actually a pretty good way to go then you can optimize in mx. to keep png's from glitching you can size them up by 1 px then F8 and convert to graphik then size the graphik back down to the original. that seems to keep everything sharp.
hope this helps.

PNG's created in MacroMedia's sister program Fireworks can be opened as multi-layer files or any portion of them can be directly copied and pasted into Flash and maintain any transparency. PNG's created in other programs, like PhotoShop for example, are not full multi layer files and therefore the quality seems lower. Transparency is maintained though. PhotoShop does not support copy & paste into flash at all. Typical Adobe thinking.

Thanks for the quick responses. My biggest concern was that using transparent PNGs would be harder on the processor then masked bmps, but so far so good. Thanks again.

I've had png problems when using save to web from photoshop... mainly color problems. ie, colors get washed out when converting from 24 bit to 16 bit colors for some reasson.
My habit now is to save as PICT w/ alpha channels (if I need it) then import into flash.
