can you take someone serious as a desinger if they are not aware of the design"community"
or if they think Mike Cina is a hocky player
- Jnr_Madison0
Yes but only if they use frontpage.
- BonSeff0

i think it would be nice to work with someone who doesnt give a fuck about mike china or josh whats his name, and just do theyre own thing. it would be like sleeping with a virgin :)

i'd love to be more involved in the design community, but unfortunately i'm too busy actually working. and when i'm not working these days i'd much rather be making music or playing outside than hanging out on message boards.... i need 3 of me. :(
- taragee0
dont u mean baseball player?
:) well - i hate peopel who like to name drop all the time but cant do layouts for ish - its like they're just being trendy by naming who's hot - but dont REALLY understand what makes a piece work...

As a designer is a very open term....I know you mean contextually 'new-media' with the reference to Mike Cina...
but the fact is...many of the older designers...people like professors of mine who went to school in Basel or at Yale and had teachers like Rand, Weingart.....this older generation....they simply don't give a crap about the current designer crew...or at least..they know how to put it in perspective....(the importance of modern day designer superstars and community boards)

my boss gets pissed when he sees a write up on one-nine because my bosses firm was their direct competitor for a couple different jobs in the past. He has no clue what is going on in the design community and its sad because the company could be so much more if they only knew what was going on. It may be shallow but true.
- andre_k0
Its true that name droping sounds trashy most of the time. However, i do get a little irritated when i talk to a a designer, and they are oblivious to what other people are doing.
There was a person that i worked with that had no idea who the designers republic are. thats a little on the ignorant side...
- taragee0
LOL melrose
dsmith all bosses are crazy like that
i hope my boss doesnt see this!!!!!!!!

Unless you are getting alot of press ... a recognized name in the "community" doesnt mean squat. Big fish - small pond stuff. It doesnt pay the bills, and means nothing to your clients. And in the end ... the client is the only person that matters to the accounting dept. I like the comradery (sp?) and the links, but nobody here helps me with my boat payment.
- zylonzoo0
any "classic drama" to remember? hehe
- asspop0
boat? wow.....my rent cheque bounced this month. and my phone was cut off and now they say i owe em 427 dollars...how the phone company gonna play a brother?
