My new portfolio, 75% done... needs some more content slapping on and one or two things rejigging. If anyone gets the bug on the img loading on the items (you'll know it if you see it) have a think for me because it appears to lose the preloaded loading gif from the cache even though it's displayed at all times 1px x 1px
odd...
Oh, and there are some style problems I need to work through and other bits of bagginess to get rid of. Give the code a haircut.
And the reason I did it in Javascript? Because I could...

Yeah, it's simple, but that's the idea. I hate all the surplus stuff that comes with Flash interfaces - in this case it's to introduce transitions to the page... So it makes sense as an average HTML layout but has some kind of movement...
Need more graphics in the design though. Ugh. I hate branding myself...
I like the silentfusion stuff btw. It's a nice site, if a bit hungry. Very slick though, although I can't really see where all that download is are...

but anyway, flash could have beena great tool for your site. you pointed out that some flash sites have shitty navs. very true. your nav is nice html or flash. so either way you win.
by saying flash sucks cause of what others have done is like saying a all dogs are vicsious because you saw one animal attack. its all relative mang.
i don't think you would have a bad site if you did it in flash. give it a try. :)

Hah... that's because of the very bad english in the last sentence... I meant "I don't see why the download time is so long" on silentfusion.
Flash would be fine - it would've allowed me to do much more but I didn't really want to add much more, so why require a plug-in?
Still, I'm gonna attack Flash again. Not programmed in it properly for a good few months. Flash doesn't suck, but I feel it's unnecesary to use it in some cases, especially when browser restrictions are used and js can handle it.
Because I hate branding myself, I'll probaly go for some kind of huge Flash art project to REALLY show off... :D

does your site work in netscape 4?
also now it is possible to install flash on the fly to the clients machine. so the plugin requirement excuse is void()

No, no netscape 4. I'm being bold and forgetting that one for the purposes of this site. I'm programming for 3 yr old technology as it is.
As to downloading on the fly, I've not noticed simply because I've not installed Flash for a while. That's quite cool, although some office and educational networks won't allow the install of plugins.
Flash IS good tho, you're not wrong...

i don't know an office network that refuses to load a browser client especially if its a self install from browser. not a peer install that they have to download.
same goes for library.
