Hi Everyone,
Take a look at today's News In Type:
See the zipper right? A load of rectangles oriented to a curved path and evenly spaced along it. Should be easy enough to get Illustrator to do this for me....
...or so I thought.
Half an hour later I've created the effect I wanted by hand but I reckon I must be missing something obvious.
Here's what I tried:
Take a couple of rectangles and place them x distance apart. Do a blend. Specify the number of steps in the blend options. So far so good - I have the edge of my zipper but in a straight line. So to curve it I simply bend the spine of the blend - right?
WRONG. Bending the spine causing the spacing to mess up between the rectangles so that they are no longer evenly spaced - arse.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

To create this effect do the following, Draw a rectangle and select it. In the brushes pallete create a new brush. Select the scatter brush option.
And then make the rotation relitive to the path.
Sweet?

I had to that once before and it was a complete headache...

... Then draw your path with the new brush applied to it.
