Is this alone OK?
or should I include this also?(Dreamweaver adds it when you clean up xhtml)

Yes, but there's at least one bug in the w3c validator. It'll skip through the Javascript but will stumble if it finds a"myVar--;" style decremement, mistaking it for a comment.

Thanks, anyone know the answer to my last question?

just use external scripts to get around any possible javascript -> validation problems.
as for cold fusion, dunno...don't use it.
:)
althouh, i will say this...i wouldn't use dreamweaver as the end all editor....it's cool to use, but check the code by hand, because even mx is quirky with validation.

Why not Dreamweaver MX has Homesite's old Code editor, It is color coded so you know if your script is valid.
Dreamweaver is alot better than using any plain text editor.
