What camera to buy?

I want a 4 or 5 megapixel camera for around $700.00 but don't know what brand holds up the best. Sony, Nikon or Canon? Whata ya'll think?

I recently purchased a 4 MP Canon G3. For me it was up against the 5 MP Nikon 5400. I decided to get the Canon because I liked the features better and have broken 3 Nikon digital cameras to date and the G3 felt solid.
I have had it for 5 weeks now... so far, so good!
The Canon G3 with wide angle lens, adapter ring, extra battery was close to $2000 (tax in) CDN.

there are plenty of new cameras that just hit the market (or will) that justifies a new thread on the subject.
I'm debating between a sony 717, v1, and canon g5 personally... the g5 is the only one not out yet.

v1: image quality not as good as I hoped.
717: too big possibly... but great pics
g3: $900... too expensive probably...

my friend has the 717
it is big.. but if your not going for a compact solution... just get a nice bag for it and you wont be sorry.. its a pimp camera...
