    I think this is a bit chicken-and-the-egg....

    Clients hire us because we can previsualize and they can't

    Clients often need to see "a design" before they can actually envision what the content may actually contain....

    .. and/or if they give us content, and we design things, it's suddenly time for quite a few revisions, because "this isn't what I had in mind"....

    So... this is a "pre-sales" question that has to be settled early, in a weird way, that's wheat really, really good account people are good for, even if I used to not quite like them in a previous agency, they actually do add value, the marketing message, target market, customer insights, business objective stuff isn't all powerpoint smoke and mirrors, sometimes it actually does contribute to a process because it causes less of this content chicken and the egg...

    ...that, or work with a damn good copywriter who gets it and gets the client's business and is able to convince the client that yes, it's worth hiring a copywriter...
