'93-'97 I went to HKIS and worked for International Fixer as a liason for big rock stars.
I skated every night at IT park and played in a shitty ska band called Abo & the Twitch.
Here in Philly I play with two of the folks that were in the band That Guys Belly.
I wonder If I know any of your HKIS friends?Wasn't that the best bridge ever?!
The one all the way out by the dam with the control tower leap!

My girl went to HK a year ago. I've been there too, but she got some nice pictures from this place called Sai Kung Country Park. Judging from the images it is definately worth a visit. I think it is like 20 km north-east of Cowloon. Beautiful deserted beaches. Take the bus to Pak Tam Au and walk the Maclehose trail through the forests. A nice day trip. Beats sitting in the hectic city whole time.

Sorry wrong Nate. You mean Nate Fischer. I was the bass/singer, he was on guitar.Sorry about the letdown, but if you know how to get in touch with the other Nate, please let me know, I'd like to see what he's up to these days.

Jevad, do you have any tapes of your band with Nate? Or perhaps a tape of the Green Partner? that one's rare I hear.
anyway, I'm headed home now but write me with your address, I might have some photos that would interest you.

causeway bay hotels will be the most expensive... you can get any hotel within ohh maybe 8 stop via subway and just get an octopus card to travel around... North Point has some cheaper hotels..
also, go to a travel agency anywhere around the city and reserve your hotel with them... you'll get like half price, don't just go to the counter and get the room at the hotel..
for tourists, temple street night market is always fun... for pirated stuff go to Mong Kok and walk along the main street, look for lots of people coming and going from a small enterance, try it out, and try going up or down a few floors, if not try again... Internet is easier to get what you want if you have broadband though...
have fun. it's kinda hot now isn't it?
- jevad0
causeway bay hotels will *not* be most expensive - by any means...infact some of the cheaper hotels are there..and ALL hotels in HK - even the marriot and conrad are literally giving away rooms jsut to get people to stay there....

Thanks so much to everyone for your advice. Am really looking forward to the trip. still not entirely sure where to stay, but have sort of narrowed it down a bit (although always open for suggestions). as i'm on a budget i'm looking for something cheap! anyone stayed at any of these places?
the garden hostel in mirador mansion. (ok i know the ultimate backpacker place, but i am backpacking.) is it really that dodgy?
the wang fat hostel

hey man - if you are choosing between the two - definately go with the ymca - it's claen - it's affordable - it's in a great area of HK...and it's easy to get to and from.....
enjoy!
- j_bird0
thanks jevad, i was leaning towards the ymca. just looking for some other opinions!
thanks!
