B Looks a bit clunky... I'd say A. More corporate-ish.

Honestly?
I think that A looks better. Do take into consideration the comments made by others.
BUT
The question might be better posed as 'Which design serves the client better?'
Personally, I think that, from the outside, option B looks like fewer non-computer people would have problems using / reading the site. The text is bigger, header text will be read by readers for the visually impaired, news text is easier to read, etc. Also, by having the 'How can we help?' options in A as part of a drop down menu, I can guarantee that some potential clients are going to miss it.
That being said, B looks a little clunky and some elements look out of place (ie. the special offers section).
Maybe re-pitch by integrating some of these elements into option A? That way you might have less resistance to what you're trying to introduce (ie. your client and the client's current customers are familiar with parts of the site so that it doesn't look like something that's drastically different from the last version...

I like the first one for all the reasons stated before me, but why is that grey column on the right?

thank you for your comments/suggestions so far.
jevad, by 'menu type' do you mean the font or the layout of the menu (e.g. the blue - white gradient)?
Mountain - thanks for your insight. you bring up some interesting points. i think i coule work more towards the lighter colors of A but maintain some of the usabilityof B.
mrdobolina - the gray bar (and the entire right 100? pixels are to show how the site will look when the browser is expanded. if you or anyone has suggestions to a better color or idea, i'm open to that. i will admit my strong point is not color selection.
thanks again, i look forward to more feedback

Design A is clearly superior, however, I dont think its quite "there" yet.
Try making the "We Make Websites...Better" text a little large and have the words at different sizes. Play with the typography a bit.
I agree that the menu text is not correct, try using a font like Frutiger or Meta, that may help.I'd also give the logo more room in the top and try removing the thick blue bar from the top.
Only other general comment is that the page generally looks a little flat and faded.
Use a brighter orange as a secondary colour, that should make the blue look better.Nearly there, just a little more messing around and you're on a winner.
Cheers.

Design A is nice.
My only comment is about the "We make websites better" payoff? It sounds very pre-dotcom-crash. I'd kill the "we" because even 17 year old kids say we on their sites. And if you do things better, I'd like to know better than who :)
