Trying to fade a rather large bitmap in flash... I'm feeling it shouldn't be done as it animates rather slowly , especially on aa Mac. Anyone know how to attempt it smoothly...
Details:
images are 720x400
smoothing is off
30fps
fade is about 20 framesthanks in advance

use an inertia script.
place the inertia script inside a MC that holds the image.
use the inertia script for the _alpha property.

thanks... will this remedy the problem? or is there an inherent drawback of tweening or changing large image areas?

... you can try this too... it's kind of what I was talking about... I'm sure if you tear apart the script a little bit you can get it to do what you want.

Dang... still pretty choppy though... I'm building for a minimum of a 1st gen G4... souuuuper slow on the fade. Thanks though...

yeah, flash doesnt fade bitmaps well, nor does it animate vector on top of bitmaps. thats a HUGE image, you wont get good results fading it.
post if you do get it to run smooth though, im a sucker for alphas and fades, but they never look good in flash.

I'm considering breaking the image into 4 or 6 panels and fading them in in blocks... do you think there's an advantage by doing it in pieces?

only if you fade them one at a time i belive.

There's really no way around it. If you seperate it into blocks, there's still going to be 6 animations going at once and that will be slow as well.

That's where I was going to go with it... fading one at a time...
