anyone know if there are any negative effects to trashing the "PREVIEW' application so PSD's actually default to photoshop and not to preview when clicked on.

cant you just get info on a jpeg and change the default 'open' app?
not sure tho

yep... you might want to try reading up on the built-in functions of the OS a bit before you start trashing your apps. You can set which app is default for file types in Get Info, or use a contextual menu addition to choose from multiple apps etc..
