so, i've been googling for some hours now but can't find an answer to the question how to make mozilla play sounds. with or without the use javascript/dhtml. it would be great if somebody knew if it is at all possible (and don't suggest me to use flash). and if it is then how?

i know you don't want to hear it, but flash is the cleanest and best way... especially if you want to do some background type music with the controls hidden.
otherwise, why not use the object or embed tags?

the sound is part of a skinnable website, so i want to keep flash away from it.
on the other hand. tested embedding. ie plays fine, but mozilla only displays the blue puzzle piece asking for it to be clicked to download the plugin. so, another dead-end.
i'm guessing it is possible to use some kinda object to force mozilla to download but i can't find it anywhere.

ok, found a solution. since it's only a small alert sound i'll use midi or au or aif files not a wav. mozilla seems to be ok with them (due to the fact thati have installed quick time it seems).
