steven heller - cuba design
not sure how early you want, but there are some early 1900 and late 1800 poster art in that book. i bought it a few months back and it is quite nice.
also steven heller's Genius Moves / 100 icons of graphic design might have some stuff youd dig.

Look up Jugendstil! Specifically the "Münchner Jugend" Which means "new style".
I've been searching for stuff on it recently. Mainly for inspiration. Some of the magazine covers are amazing.
Incredibly hard to find images of it over the internet though. I found a couple books in the chicago public library.
