okay I know that to set IE6 in XP to have a status by bar default you need to open 1 window activate the status bar then go into to windows explorer and set all folders to look the same or whatever... but it never lasts! I'm always losing my status bar and it shits me to tears... can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Right click on the Start button and click on Explore.
Configure the Explorer the way you like it. Set the Details view, the STATUS BAR and any other customizations you like. Get everything just the way you want it.
Click the Tools menu and click the Folder Options command.
In the Folder Options dialog box, click on the View tab. In the Folder views frame, click on the Apply to All Folders button. You'll see an information dialog box telling you that the changes will take place the next time you option a folder. Click Yes.
Click OK in the Folder Options dialog box.
Now all your settings are saved and you don't have to do them over again the next time you restart Windows

thanks unformatted, that sounds interesting, the app mentions it overwrites the rgistry after opening 400 folders and i probably do go through more than 400 eplorer window in a couple of days - I also found this on http://www.annoyances.org it says something about holding ctrl down while closing the folder - Try this: Start with one instance of IE. Select View | Status Bar. Now press Ctrl while clicking the X in the upper-right-hand corner of the window to close the application. Next, open My Computer and select View | Status Bar. Finally, go to Tools | Folder Options and select the View tab. Click Apply to all folders, confirm the dialog, and then close Windows Explorer.

yeah that app modifies your registry so xp remembers the settings for more than 400 folders. i have mine at like 2000. cuz i hate going into a folder and it's in thumbnail view and they are just txt files.
