hi there
well i've done what you want to do.. i've started two years ago.. tees, belts, underwear.. i never had enough money to put into it so i could produce special models, nice prints, etc etc...
first thing before you go anywhere : if u plan to do only shirts.. unless you have e very good concept.. excellent desing and web skills you are not gonna go anywhere...
now if it's for leisure and a bit of money of course you can do it.. amercianapparel is one of the best wholesaler you can start with.. very nice stock and prices, reliable.. u'll find what you are looking for..
but from there if you intedn to grow and do some decent money you'll need to explore the worl of 'fashion'... produce your own models, find the girls / boys to wear them.. do very nice pictures... labels, packaging maybe ? organize your dealers network, your policies.. etc...
lots and lots to do.. again selling tee shirts is one thing.. more and more designers (and good ones) think they found the mecca when they will print their beloved desing onto simple t shirts.. but that's wrong.. you need sexy clothes, groovy models, embroidery, lables, : everything that will make your clothes look like a real Clothing line... *
i have not achieved this.. but i have tried my best and today i'm quite happy to sell a tee shirt sometimes and ship it at the other end of the world...
good luck man

tried it in 94-95-96.
it really depends on what you want to do... just tees? entire line of clothing? mens? womans?
some good connections which include:
connections to manufacturing and distribution. like if you have a friend or relative already in the business. sales skill... how you going to sell it once you got it?
and lots of MONEY!

what you need to do is buy some kids for some cheep labor from some 3rd world country and put them to work sewing your stuff. i'm sure you can pick some up cheap online.
kidding.
a friend of mine is out in l.a. starting her own label. she says it's a lot of $ and time and it's all about who you know. keep at it though and good luck.

I tried, I failed.
Best tip I can give you: make sure your investors signs a written contract stating how much they are willing to put in and WHEN they'll put it in, dont beleive their promises. You can have tons of orders, but it you dont have the cash in time to pay your suppliers, you're FUCKED!
best of luck. if you need more info, feel free to email me at Loc@meok.nu .

what can lounge agency do for me?
- platinum0
Hey Carty, I've already been to lounge agency. I met with all you guys a few months ago, I think it was in October or November. I drove down to T.O. and had a meeting with Dave and Emily about possibly doing some stuff for Lounge Clothing Co. I did a couple designs for dave, I don't think he ended up using them, but it's all good. It was still cool to see your studio and kinda see how a clothing co./design agency works.

don't expect to make any money if you are doing tee's alone. You gotta be creative with your money, advertising, etc...
we been doing this for about a year http://www.doubledown47.com
