I have looked into it. I've been kinda persuing the idea myself for my art. I've found that there are two definate ways of getting stickers and labels done. Lasor printed and screen printed. If you can get someone to print the labels with a lasor printer, that will be your cheapest route, but the highest quality will be through screen printing. It will cost more though. If you decide to look at screen printing, look into 4 color process. That will give you the highest quality of screen printing. Other then that... It is a battle getting those things done. Also, when looking, start thinking about what kind of stock(paper or plastic), Waterproof or not, how many colors you really need, will you need special cuts and how much that's gonna cost. If you get 1000 or more, you usually get lower prices. um, ok, I'll let you figure out the rest. later

if you are looking for some good design inspiration, i would suggest hitting B&N... some good books are:
creative solutions for unsual projects by Scott Boylston (how design books)
the perfect package by Catharine Fishel (rockport press)
dimensional promotions by David E. Carter (HarperCollins publishers)
these are a couple I have around, but there are a ton more... there is a couple directly focused on the wine industry as well.
good luck

yeah my friend has done one for an export wine to go to the USA.
its black and white, not traditional typography or label size. its called 'piping shrike', which is a bird (magpie).
just go out and look at whats on the shelves and ask the client their market position, might get ya started.
good luck!!
