this may sound like a strange question for Newstoday, but I figured someone might know... basically i will be in the position soon where i'll need to come through US customs on a tourist visa several times. ie, I'll stay there for say 2mths, leave and then come back after 2 weeks or so and stay another 2mths.
what I am wondering is if this is ok or will the US customs get suspicious and not let me back into the country?
I'm not doing anything illegal (visiting my girl :) but I just want to know if i can get back into the country with no problems.
anyone got any helpful advice?

As long as you have all your return tickets to how - ie. The flights that say you're leaving the country each time.

hi there !
i really have a word of advise on this one. i used to live in California for 2 and a half years on a 3 month tourist visa.
Everyone does it, and does the same. They leave the US by foot at the Tijuana border, you won't get any stamp (us stamp) on your passport cause there is no custom to go out, when you gross by foot. Then you stay a day, week or so in Mexico, come back and tell the customs you'd like another visa, you didn't use yours completely and went to mexico.. as they don't have a date of your last exit they stamp your passport with another 2 / 3 months..
Of course i did feel more and more pressure after lets say the third time : the guy at the custom knows perfectly what you are doing but there is nothing illegal doing it so they will try to find something else if they decide to bother you :

end of the message :
be careful of :
they can ask you to have enough money to live for the duration of your visa + buy an airplane ticket.
if they check your paspot and see 2/3 /4 tourist visa completed they will search you : they will try to prove your are living illegaly in the states by finding us bank cards, businees cards, us adress on documents etc.. be careful to look and talk like a tourist and not like an american..
we used to do it in groups, it was mucjh easier. san diego is very know for that, any backpacker place is full of people doing this ..all in all don't worry, but check carefully your luggage before to cross the customs, not to have to much stuff that relate to your girlfriend, life in america
good luck

hmmm.. real end :)
if you go and leave by plane it's exactly the same .. after a few times they will start to ask you some question about why you are coming back and WHY for 2 Months, and HOW do you live without working. PRepare your answers to these questions and your luggage so you look like a perfect tourist.
note : i've never ever in my all life (i've been in about 18 different countries) seen such customs like the US.
They are hard and though, 'racist', so depending on your face, color of skin, ton of voice, accent, content of your suitcase, name on your passport, they are gonna hassle you. Even if that sounds stupid, my experience after crossing the US customs several times at different places is : wear a baseball cap, look sharp and you'll be fine.

that's fine - just make sure you have your return tickets with you.
I was in a band in boston for a year and used to spend 3 months in, a month back in the Uk - then 3 months and a month back etc...no problems....

Make sure not to mention that you are visiting your girlfriend - that could get you into all kinds of trouble if she is american. They will think you are planning on getting married to get a green card - trust me I know - come up with other reasons for travell. Also try to fly into the west coast airports - much more laid back customs. East coast can be a nightmare - i know - I got grilled for 5 hours in NY one time - they cut a legit 6 month work visa to 3 months cause they can!! Just be smart. Have fun

very true.. and realisitc comment.. i agreee with the west coast thing too..
anything that can 'relate' to an american life in the US would be a bad time for you at the customs : girlfriend, job, papers, permanent adress etc etc..

yeah - boston customs were absolute cunts...mind you...didn;t help that I flew in with a one -way my first time over : )
