i have a flash movie .. that is pulling xml data into dynamic text fields. and i am wondering ... how do i go about , putting effects on the text once it is pulled in via xml? is that clear... you know what i am saying?

3 ways you can do that -
(1) Set up the movie so that your text fields are preformatted in the style you want. (12pt, Arial, Red - etc)
or
(2) Run a check to apply the style automatically - after the text field has been populated -
if (yourTextField_txt.text != "")
{
// apply TextFormat()
}(3) Set the text field to HTML and use the markup available to format the text.

Well those do help me in my general quest of flash knowledge.... those are some great examples/code on that site.
though i wanted to fade the text in .... and i cant seem to change the alfa channel on the dynamic field.... know what i mean?

try embedding the font... using TextFormat - or setting it manually (I'm not to sure if this work to well).
Or you could fake it - use a rectangle to 'mask' the text - but not a real flash mask...
Simply cover the text with the rectangle - same colour as your background - and fade out the rectangle, not the text.

Make a movie clip and then put the text field inside it. After the text is loaded into it you can change the movie clip properties such as Alpha for fade-in and stuff like that....
