My boss is being extra nice today. He's a nice guy, but like all bosses have a certain thing about they way they act. Today I caught a huge mistake on a Metallica flag we were doing and in front of people in the office he says "wow, that's very good, good eye, i'm very proud of you"
And also on a 5" X 7" the client had us print I noticed different shades of black and he was telling the client about it and he did one of those "mentions of my and my position in front of me and the office"
i like compliments but there is something about it, that just doesn't sit right haha maybe i'm just nuts.
you guys ever have this?

nah, the salespeople usually take all the credit for everything from design to manufacturing.
fuckers.

unless it gets a negative reaction - then the blame gets dumped on the designers -right?

at my last job, had a project manager that was completely incompetent, no technical or mgt skills. She would go around asking people for chocolate every 5 minutes (trying to be funny and cute, which is nasty coming from an annoying 45+ lady). At meetings she would compliment employees on their skills, but do it in that same weird way. I think it's done tongue in cheek when they do that to just keep the employees happy. I was mismanaged for 6 months before they fired me for calling her out on a couple of things.

he's phony?

see i know he's not totally phony but he's still not completly on my side. haha little does he know that i will be asking for a raise soon! =)

do you guys have management that worry more about their market america endeavors than actually trying to get clients?
or howabout this?
do you have management that cater sooooo much to the clients that spend 2 grand and give 2 shits less about the clients that spend 30 grand?
well if you do, you must know something about webpro.

i always notice a trend that when upper management is really nice to me that it means one of two things: overtime or lay-offs.
- swollenelbow0
well they can't lay me off because i've put myself in a position that if i leave they would be really hurt. And I already work till all hours of the morning so.. hehe well.
- unknown0
howabout overtime with no compensation? that seems to be the M.O. around here these days.

hey swollenguy
i thought the same thing.. and they fired my ass. I was doing all the redesigns for the important projects for the company, and they canned me b/c i said something to my manager about this girl who was bringing in design that wasn't hers.apparently they support people that can't design bringing work that their friends do for them, and fire the people that can actually do the work. but screw them, i got a better job in 4 weeks, got 3 weeks of unemployment that the company has to pay for...

somehow i mixed up swollenelbow with mrniceguy sorry
- swollenelbow0
haha it's ok, you can call me josh! =)
well i know how it is you guys...but i think i've gone to far into the "friend" arena. i know his wife, his baby, and lots of his friends, and not to brag but aside from the guy who's been here for 3 years i'm the office bosses pet.
he's a nice guy, and i don't want to cut him short. but the again i don't want to get dicked.
i think i should sit down with him and have a very straight talk. it's weird. i'm sure everyone has been there...

i almost hope i get canned. then i can spend a little more time developing a better portfolio for myself and dedicate an entire day to searching for a job. i feel like im wasting time and talent sitting in this office.

when i was unemployed for four weeks, I just played Navy Seals Socom online all day. it was fun as hell. i got lucky with this current job I am doing design and programming and i got offered the job the same day as my interview. this small ad agency actually called me up the week after i started from craiglist.org. and i found my job through monster.com believe it or not. swollenelbow, you should definitely talk with the guy, my friend was in the same situation and ended up leaving b/c he had a better offer somewhere else. Being friends with a manager is good, but it won't always get you the dough you deserve.
- swollenelbow0
yeah dude...we gotsa talk...i gotta get my balls ready.

i'm really thinking about starting a design collective to collab on projects in the NYC area. I want to have a place that thrives on the creative energy of the members. Each person bringing their own experiences and intelligence to the group as a collective whole.
or maybe I'm just talking out of my ass.
All I know is that I often find myself wanting more. More design theory. More proper critiques from designers who _know_ design. More creative results from proper design practices.

we should rock it smith!
