1) Why do we need design?
2) What is good design. What is bad?
3) What is the most important thing to consider when designing?

You have 30 minutes to complete the questions.
If you need to use the restroom please raise your hand and a member of the testing staff will escort you to the bathroom.

1. We don't. It's just that things work optimally when its around.
2. Good design makes useful or easy to use. It delivers information without effort from the user. Bad design confuses and obfuscates and requires conscious effort to interact with in any meaningful way.
3. 45 degree lines. And you should probably have your end user in mind as well.
Morning all.

Elaborating on point two:
Therefore it could be considered that good design is in a way invisible, providing as it does an ambience for the content it holds. conversely, bad design can be seen to be "noisy", to drown out information, or to come between the user and the information in an unhelpful manner.

The most important thing is that it's appealing to the eye and user friendly at the same time!

yes yes yes...buy why!!

because the majority of people are stupid philistines with bad taste so they need designers to create things that are easy to use and understand which also raise the visual culture that surrounds us. (we're superficial)
- jevad0
getting there!!
- Danski0
because our sight is 90% of what we take in (allegedly) we are a culture based purely on appearances?

design is fundamental to our society, it has civilised us, after all the wheel is a design, as much as the printing press is, as much as a website is.
ultimatley design is about making things better.

the two most important thing in evey design whatever genre, is its purpose and how its going to be used

personally, sometimes I worry that design might be "overrated" in terms of it's usefulness... I can't be sure, but it worries me that one day everyone will wake up, and think "What a big waste of money..."
And, christ, I hope not...
Let's just pray people continue to find use in it, and continue to pay us....
because, for me, the most important part of design is that I love it.
