if the guy is trying to patent a particular script or a certain type of pop up - then maybe I could see it - but do just patent all pop-ups is just silly to me

one patent rule is that it is beyond "obviousness." if anyone could have come up with it then it cannot be patented.
and tim berners-lee/cern, who invented the web and the webpage, could have patented it and had every right to. but since he wanted it to be freely used, he didn't.

of course someone invented the webpage...you think it just sprouted up from nothing?
people have tried patenting their website's layout, although as they're saying it's not very enforcable...but no, of course i don't think someone should patent the "webpage"
