Hypothetically speaking... Say there is this person who is a real workhorse (I know... who isn't) But this art/dev/designer really hammers out great flash and html work...
this being is schooled in visual arts from film, video, editing, animation, sound design, etc etc... does alot of actionscript programming... is confident with integrating flash projects with the DB and just loves to do good work...
Now lets say that this little monkey is being wooed from his comfortable (read: "shitty paying") job that keeps him working like a pack donkey to go work at a new company being set up under a respectable ad agency... This new company is now asking what the donkey's expectations are for compensation to come on as lead designer...
In todays market... what would you say?

dude you cant ask that...so many factors in that math problem you cooked up. Everyone gets jerked on the cash. And you still sound a bit green so your gonna get jerked..or you may ask for to much and jerk yourself right out of a job. Heres two things to try look up salaries on the AIGA site and maybe start there but be honest with your skills. Working at a big company is not only about design but a lot of other crap comes with it...you gotta think do you wanna do that extra "crap" Heres anthor thing to try ask them what do they think you are worth that way they are making the first move and you can counter. But in the end its more than the money its do you like what your doing. Just becareful and be prepared to live with whatever choice you make...sounds like your ready to leave your current job so take this one...make more cash and be happy...you should be happy there even if it sucks from any where from 6months to a year...as long as its not SUPER SHADY then your old job is gonna look great....you better do good MAN!

First and foremost you need to define what type and caliber of office you're applying to. The rank-and-file "Flash Job" has a slew of slap-shot-punks who learned Flash on their Mom's computer vying for the position.

this Gorbie guy has not a clue if he can figure your salary down to the cent...hes pulling your chain dude...not saying Im right...Im just giving you paths to test

Take your current salary, and add the amount it would take you to leave your comfortable job.
Then add 5k for good measure.
I'll bet you arrive at my exact figure!

Oh, and can you make your website into a screen saver... so I can put it on all my co-workers computers?
