i'm thinking of starting some kinda online design collective of gay, lesbian, trans, etc individuals
just a simple site to showcase works and spread the word of news and events in the queer design galaxy
my friend tony set one up earlier at http://queerda.com but his bitch ass is all selective and shit meh
email me at
or reply to this thread if interestedxo ben aqua

this thread went a long way...no offense but...you'll have to come up with a mock up or something...if i was queer i would want something to look at. =)
bump.

I agree with Swollenelbow. Good idea though :)

hmm i havent really thought of the visual layout, just more the idea of it
i guess the structure would be like some kinda portal site, maybe with a few people updating the news section...other features would include articles, interviews, message board, etc
i dunno, it shouldnt be anything too big or outrageous...what do you guys think? suggestions?

I think you should do it...Im shocked no one has jumped on you for asking for "gay" designers.

I never understood why Gay, Lesbian, Transgenderal people always lump themselves together. They have totally different issues. You might as well add bisexual and heterosexual under this invisible heading.

i think the content might differ a bit from non-queer sites for that matter... but I wouldn't know if it is really nescessary to have the design look very different..
i think you should give us some clues... a simple mockup or anything..

gay people. i swear they drink some different water.

why's it only gotta be about homo gays?

I don't really agree.
Most websites with a predominately hetero demographic, splatter their websites with sexuality. Look at half of the certified websites here at NT. So many of them feature half-naked models displayed in a sexy manner.
Go for it. Put a big dick on if you like. There is so much gratuitous heterosexually based imagery... that us straight folks barely even recognize it.
- 4cY0
i agree with Gorbie.
i know some gays, some are like you and me, others are almost like you and me, but like to see different stuff..
everyone their own.
freedom for all!
go for it, man!

banking + gay pride

J_Treehorn & everybody--
the site would be more about queer identities in the design world, be it gay, bisexual, whatever
i'm not saying we should separate queers out of the masses and stamp a "you all have identical issues" declaration on their foreheads, because i agree, we all have different struggles
i guess the site i'm thinking of would be just another chance for the general audience to explore a different side of life, thats all

fuck, while we're at it, i think it'd be interesting to show hetero people's views on queer culture in some kinda gallery/interview system too...havent seen much of that around.
so maybe the site shouldnt be limited to just queer people doing everything, but more an exploration of the interpretations of queer culture/life from the designer's perspective?
i'll work on a simple mock-up for the site (i'm thinking basic layout eg. surfstation, dik)

well said, aquabotic.
i remember there was some kind of portal/site dedicated to female designers only... saw it a long while back, forgot the URL tho.

mmm defining oneself by ones sexuality has never stuck with me.
I think it would be cool if you did some overtly camp / kitsch / gay looking stuff, battles (or bitch fights) or splash galleries could be quite cool and interesting not just for gay folk but for a more general audience, I'm sure there would be some great humourous stuff there.
I wouldn't try to intellectualise it too much because.. well .. I just dont think it warrants it.

isnt there more to life than ones sexuality?
- unknown0
i think holland has a bunch of gays
- Gorbie0
Is defining one's self by their line of work more noble to you?
If not, then we're all guilty.

i define myself by my rock and roll lifestyle.... doesn't everyone? bitches, booze, and drugs right!
