Anyone have an idea when panther comes out? Is it worth the wait or would it be a cheap upgrade from jaguar?
This is all I know:
and a preview release of the next major version of Mac OS X, codenamed "Panther", at Worldwide Developers Conference 2003, June 23-27, in San Francisco.

Rumor has it that Panther will actually have the soft-architecture support for the 64 bit chips. Maybe some Carbon emulation for developers as well.

mac os x is more expensive... considering they update yearly and they don't offer upgrades.
but they don't need serials, so they are, uh, easier to try out. and mac os x is 10x the os windows xp is.
i'm betting the new version will be $129. 64 bit support, more quartz extreme, new ui improvements, etc.

.......Theres a new upgrade almost every couple weeks that 'software update' notifies you of and will download and install in one click. I cant imagine anything easier.....
ill pay $129 every year to have the most updated OS that is guaranteed to work with everything i have.
when i got jaguar, my old 15" trinitron i use as a second monitor actually jumped from being able to show only 800x600 with OS9/X to now showing 1280x1024...all with a single upgrade. thats pretty damn cool.
