This is interesting. I want to hear more.
I dont think I could afford to live in LA. The places are so expensive and the salaries dont seem much higher than the midwest. Am I right?
Also Im curious. Never been to LA. Do gang members bother normal people or just keep to themselves or their own neighborhoods?
Also there must be tons of hot babes there, but are they really stuck up and hard to get?
Just curious.

hahaha gang members i dont think ive seen one since ive been here....hot chicks yes...hard to approach? sometimes....just like any other place really....

Just wondering how it is. I almost picture CA being overrun by gang members. Even though St. Louis is currently the #1 dangerous city.
I just compared Compton and East Saint Louis.
East Saint Louis, Illinois has a Relocation Crime Lab Index of 1096 which is a higher crime rate than the national average
Compton, California has a Relocation Crime Lab Index of 555 which is a higher crime rate than the national average
A value of 100 means that the city is exactly average. A value of 200 means that the city has twice the crime rate as the average city.
Tell me more about gangs and babes:)

Thats cool theres a lot of work there too. Working for entertainment industry sounds cool.
Is there a lot of competition with really awesome designers?
- pepe0
LA is no better or worse than anywhere else just a hell of a lot more spread out...lots of nice looking ladies its almost always warm and yes there is a ton of work cuz of the entertainment industry....

theres a heck of a lot of competition. its hard to know if someone's really going to help you our or stab you in the back. just my opinions though. otheres may think differently.

Shellie plotted against me and know I work at kinkos.

LA is great, weather, enviornment and all! The design scene is is moderate i guess, but the WEB is where most of the design scene seems to be. No matter how far we are, we see each other's works via web.
If you come to LA, find a spot outside of LA, away from traffic and miserable road rage. OC is relaxed and breezy. North Hollywood is g e t t o! gotta get back to work! Good luck in LA tho, some stiff competition.

My LA experience... (not like anyone asked)
I moved out here a little over 2months ago. I found a job before I moved by sending out a couple demo-reels, drove out here, found where I was working, and found an apartment close to work by scouting out neighborhoods (now living in SantaMonica).
Since I've been here, I've met some great designers/artist and I havn't been able to slow down the work flow between my 9-5, some side freelancing, and personnal projects.
The LA art scene seems to be jumping with tons of galleries, exhibits, weekly openings, music, etc. A lot of it is pretty trendy stuff, but there is a lot of good unique flavor as well. It doesn't seem like a tough city to survive in and there are cheap ways of doing it. I give LA a thumbs up... I don't see myself staying here for more than a 3-4yrs, but there is lots to take advantage of out here.
The sun and water are nice too, though nicer in SanDiego.
