Correct me if I'm wrong - all I need to transfer data (APPS, FONTS, NUDIE PICS, ETC), from OLD MAC to NEW MAC is a data transfer cable and some Apple talk?
The place that I'm buying the NEW MAC from wants to charge me $60 to do the transfer. phooey.

use your ethernet cable to connect via appletalk.

exactly - and they want to charge me $60??!!
is there anything else to it?!

just a crossover calbe or a hub of some sort

or the fun way, network them both up to the internet, setup an ftp, then download from the other! like, fast.

as far as i can remember and it's for OS9ish, most important...
1. jack up the Macs with the ethenet cable.
2. activate Appletalk in Chooser for both Macs.
3. Control Panels -> File Sharing -> Start File Sharing, go check the Activity Monitor to see whether both macs and connected.

right - that's what i thought it took. which led me to skoff at CPUsed wanting to charge me $60 to do something so simple.

it sucks, use the $ to buy some rams instead.
another more simple way, burn the files in CDR.
:)
what new mac you bought? a TiBook?

i'm about to buy a new 15" TiBook from the same place that's going to buy my old tower - so the sale of the OLD MAC happens right before the purchase of the NEW MAC - and they want to charge me $60 to do the data transfer! i'm about to spend $4500 CDN on a new Book, and the pleebs there tell me that they have to chage me for the transfer. fuck that - i'm bringin' out the ol' barter system to their manager yo...
