everyone does something that is cool and useful whether you like doing it or not.
what do you do (or know) that others wish they could do? what do you have access to that others would think is cool?
design related: i print high-res images on adhesive vinyl paper (mostly large format). i also make backlit graphics (large and small format), print on canvas and transparent film (large).
i get all kinds of material in and i have scraps of cool papers, vinyl, films, etc that i can do anything i want to on. i have access to vinyl cutters and run the large format printer at work.non-design related: wilderness survival. =)
so what do you do that others would think was cool.
(on a side note, i am a lush and a huge nerd)

well, damn, Bio, that IS cool. Downside for me being on that job is that I would get fired pretty soon, as I would print superlarge format posters for my own good.. or to sell 'em! ;)
ever done that?
on that note:
I know a couple of folks in Rotterdam who print their own (small) stickers in the trim/bleed area of the large ones they do on a daily bases... they told me they never got into trouble with it, as it is waste anyway. You got any of such experiences?

it is a rare occasion that i print anything for myself, but i do tend to draw all over the scraps and stick them to things. haha.
i can make stickers from the vinyl scraps, but the company would be pissed if i did. they would rather us throw away scraps than use it for something else. fucked up. but everyone plays with the scraps anyway.
i do frequently order new materials JUST so i can print something cool as a "test". which while completely legit and accepted, is also largely for my own amusement. heheh. i should have some cool shit coming in soon to play with. =)

I don't know about 'cool' but one thing I do is make holograms.
they are 3D prints comprised of 327,680 images (different views) rendered in Maya at 640x512 and composited together.
Some of it is very realistic.

i guess design skills and access to good computers/design software is what i bring to the table at a meeting of the 'Favour Bank'...
thats when one friend approaches you and says...hey...
i need you to design a new cd cover for my band..
and since that friend's family owns a wicked indian restaraunt..well...look who's getting a few free meals.. :)i have nothing cool like vinyl tho...
used to back in the day..
back around 95 i was working at a place called Inkjet Signs...and we did the same stuff that Bio gets to do now..

now we're smokin. hells yea. sounds like you guys do some pretty cool things!
blueman, what kinda games? i am interested too!
jamesh, i'd kill to see what you are talkin about!!! sounds fucking awesome!
and as for how big we can print here... you name it. i can print you a double lifesized Bio sticker. haha. the printer gets up to 50" but we frequently tile things to cover the sides of buildings or vehicles (but that part is boring and i hate doing that shit) haha. i much prefer posters.
