Yeh I know the IPOD is kick ass. But anyone know of a cheaper alternative that's good. I've seen a few but just not sure what the qualiry is like... I really only need about a gig of space and only have a budget of about usd150.

For those of you interested...
I ordered one of these babies
http://www.frontierlabs.com/NEXI…Yes, I'm a cheapskate, but for $89, I can use my 512meg smart media cards from my digi cam and I'm set.

cant you get the previous versions of the ipod at ebay later when those new ipods are sold already... those old ipods would be cheap.
- Mick0
ebay ipods are Still pretty pricey compared to $89- this Nex has more than twice battery life, its smaller, quieter (no hard drive).
It aint no ipod but it's pretty slick for the price.

Ipod alternative.. let me check..
get a MD, mp3 is good for 2 things listening in the computers speakers and fast audio transfer, but if you are looking for betters sound, mini disk is the way to go! Smaller, compact, digital, portable, works with pc, mac most sound systems, pro musician have at least one at their studio, WAAAAAAAAAY better sound and expandible mamory.Let's not even talk about what happens when you get the stereo microphone, imagine remembering live concerts on a single discs, (personal and home use, please)
you need an engine sound for your next video project? go record it yourself. and yes.. it only cost 125 bucks!!
Why did you ever choose an mp3 player over that?!!peace
- protoculture0
because it can hold up 7500 songs...

work w/ windows? if so, what software is used?
- unknown0
On an MD you can hold infinite songs in real Digital quality, MD discs are cheap and very slim, and you get waaaaaaaaay better sound.
for a lot less..
When you watch a dvd you want the surround sound with it right?
nobody wants to listening to that on just the tv speakers, why music should be different?peace
- kpl0
better sound... whatever.
md uses an older compression method than mp3. if you know how to rip mp3 properly then it won't sound crappy.
- niku0
i agree on the md players.
if you had to get mp3, this is nice. you can watch avi's in color on the tiny little screen. also has rca im and outs.
- niku0
i meant mp4. i'm a dummy.
