It's been a slow couple of years for me. When there wasn't a freelance job, at least I had an unemployment check. Now there's neither. All my friends that were doing Flash or web design have moved on to other things. I'm willing to do that, too, but I can't even find another thing - tried Kinko's, UPS, FedEx - Every day, I pick a page from the yellow pages and do cold calls. I send out a dozen promotional post cards. I check the main job boards; Craigslist etc. Nothing.
Would my time be better spent just updating my portfolio?

Don't want to sound negative, but homelessness looms - - -

as I told some other guy posting this stuff, join the club and stop feeling sorry for yourself. Something will come sooner than later.

spending too much time on here won't do you any favours either

LA, hell no!

i agree. move to LA. more opportunity and just a better place in general. There is still money to be made here...
I like visiting SF but I would never want to live there...too many pretentious hippies and ex-technology peeps.

i'm moving to Palo Alto. 30 minutes from the beach. close to the mountains. new scenery. i'll be vacationing a bit in Yosemite before i am ready to get back into the workforce. June 1st i'm officially reintroducing myself to the world.

although sometimes i feel like an extreme yuppie... (drivin' my jetta to starbucks to do web consulting on my apple powerbook while listening to tunes on my iPod.) i make myself sick sometimes.

nuggler, your portfolio is pretty tight. i say enjoy your time off. go to the beach. relax. and then get up and really attack it the next day. if you really need some freelance work, go door to door and try to get some small business jobs.
do you live in the city? any recommendations about the peninsula area? i'm looking palo alto, menlo park, los altos, mountainview...
oh, here's my portfolio:
