This probably isn't the right time of day for this question.. I'll bumb it tonight when it's daytime in Spain...
.. anyway, I'm planning on going to Mexico to teach English for a while, and I want to do a CELTA course. This is a one month course that prepares you to teach English. I'd like to take this course in Spain if possible.. it's offered in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Mallorca...
So... do you know how the cost of living is in Spain? Rent, etc? How much do you think it would cost me to trek around Europe a little after my class?

hi there mate, I guess that u´re in usa, right? Ok, I´m a spanish living in the uk and I can tell u that it is quite cheap to live in my country. Well it depends of the city, if u live in Barcelona or Madrid is like 2 times more expensive than Alicante or Malaga, for example.
If u wanna travel around Europe check out
or any cheap airlines company around.

(apr 28 03)Bah... Madrid beats Barcelona at any given time :p As I told you on e-mail and as first guy to respond said, living in Madrid or Barcelona is almost 2 times more expensive than anywhere else...

yeah, I'm not into rockin' scenes anyway... introvert nerd :P
So how much would you say? (in Seville for example) Can you give me an estimate on rental of a studio? I don't even know if I could rent one for a month... but I'm married, so the dorm-style living probably wouldn't work out... How about the price of a meal? typically?

btw, Elektro, I've been looking around, and it seems it's pretty hard for a north american to get work in Spain. A lot of preference for jobs is given to people from EU countries... nimodo :(

that´s true oOo, in terms of work permit the european citizens have things easier, but u northamerican haven´t things that bad. Umhmm, I can´t not even work out the prices in euros, not even in $s... Averages prices:
- Coffe: 1 euro.
- Dinner out (depends) u can have a seat meal in some places for 7-12 euros. 3 courses, wine, sweet and bread.- Rental? the south is cheaper, a studio would depend of the area, how the studio is... If u in the south during the summer rent prices are quite expensive if u don´t rent in advance (my mum had a flat in the north east and she got like 1500 euros for august). That´s how it gets in a really touristic place but the rest of the year is cheaper. For example, my friend shared a flat with 2 more people and he paid 150 euros a month. The flat was ok, not a palace but ok.

thanks dspsycho, is Seville pretty touristy?

yeah, a bit, but the people is quite nice, though a bit hard to understand because their accent. The south can be a nightmare for anyone trying to learn spanish, but people is friendly, I know what I´m talking about coz my mum is from the south. Just keep and open mind and try to enjoy the wine and the food (fucking huge tapas when u order a beer man).
