    Hey all,
I'm planning on moving to chicago sometime in the end of may and was wondering if anyone knew of a room for rent around then... it could be for just the summer or longer .. i'm not really tied to anything time-wise. I wanna live DT somewhere.. maybe lincoln park, wrigleyville, etc... i'll be working in roger's park.

Any ideas from fellow chicagoans? (or chicagoites... i'm not sure what you like to be called;-)
Something fairly cheap too cause technically it's an internship for a short while.

well seeingas though i was born and raised and probably will die in chicago i feel that i am quite qualified to let you in on some chicago secrets. dont live in wriglyville or licoln park if you plan on having a vehicle...you will NEVER find parking and those two are the most expensive neighborhoods to live. if youre interning in rogers park then you should probably get a place there. the best place to get an idea about room and board is the chicago reader... http://www.chireader.com

I hope i have been of some help

    total help! thanks much!

i have a couple of friends that are planning on moving down as well, but in september, so i'm just looking for a place to sub.

I'll have a car, but am not planning on driving unless i go out of town ever.. (i'll be pretty broke, so i probably won't get to leave ever!) heh..

    thanks for the tips though:-)

Yes. Although those areas are absolutely beautiful, they're INSANELY congested and expensive. You have to purchase special parking permits if you want to own a vehicle in those areas.

I'm particularly fond of Ravenswood and Roscoe Village. You can still find fantastic deals in those areas, and parking isn't nearly as bad.

are Ravenswood and Roscow village on the west side of the kennedy or the east side?

I'm not really familiar with chi town as of yet so i'm a bit lost:-

i'm pretty much planning on taking the train and biking it whenever it's nice out. I only seem to know where some parts of the city are (lincoln park, rogers park, old town, boystown, wrigleyville, etc...)

i'll be working right off of clark and sheffield so anywhere kinda close would be cool... but also, i don't want to be stuck at work the whole time so maybe somewhere near cool things would be cool too (i'm 23 if that helps:-)

thanks for the help so far everyone! It's gonna be a kick-ass change for me!

Such a great city here, something for everyone, at least two or three of everything you could want or need.
As far as apartments go, the suggestions are good so far. However, keep in mind that if you are working in that area that is serviced by the Red line, you'd want to live off the red or brown line.
I only say that because I was going to suggest looking in Logan Square, inexpensive rent still in comparison to Wicker Park and Bucktown to the south, but off the Blue line so you'd have a transfer or two to get to Roger's Park.
Best to avoid having to take a bus to the El every day, plenty of people do it, but I couldn't stand it, the bus is too unreliable if you're on a schedule. I walk about half a mile to and from the blue line at California every day, barely takes 8-10 minutes, so look at your distances to the El and it's really not a bad walk if it's something you have to do.
Winter is over and everyone is starting to get outside, a great city for the summer.
