hey ani
like 80% of prsses are 40" wide.
60" presses are generally for package design labels.as for the sticker thing, it all depends on the printers and the length they will go to do that. to wrap a sticker around the corners, to me would be hand done. that means employees of the printer would do it and it would be costly. but pretty much anything can be done if you poke around hard enough for vendors

ani, bon seff can probably give you more info about a 60" press than i can, but basically it just means bigger paper can go through it. more paper, more real estate, bigger project dimensions.
those stickers were probably applied by hand. they may have used a template or something. usually printers hire teams of...err, mentally challenged people to do handwork. if not, people usually find a vendor in china or somewhere that labor is super cheap. if a machine can't do it, it usually gets expensive or goes overseas.
- Duane0
exactly what seff said. we're using the 60" presses for a litho label job we're doing for some packaging for neiman marcus.
- Duane0
seff, just remembered. the 60" printer we are using is sprint press in fort worth. if you need a contact, i can get one to you. the rep there is an awesome good ole boy that has helped out a lot with printing over the years. he'll babysit your jobs.

congrats on your award
never really got into dsvc. is it a cool group? their website seems pretty supportive to us designers. the golf tournament looks appealing.
i didnt know there was a aiga chapter in dallas.
man there is so much talent here, it would be nice to get us all together.hey did you go to the how design conferrence in 99?
that was pretty cool.
- Ani0
Thank you!

ha ha. everybody seems to do work for neimans. we use a super good photographer that does a lot of photography for them

dont laugh, it had to match their letterhead. a throwback to the .com color scheme. bleghi did their site, it wasnt pretty. but i love that studio. ka does super work.
that 60" contact would be very important to me :)
the last 60" job i did was hell. the pressman looked and talked like the "ladies man" form snl. he had posters of himself around the pressroom from a gig he got modeling dickies clothing,
classicoh btw. i work for a bunch of companies. its like an umbrella corp. the main corp is david sutherland inc. a furniture and textile corp.
http://www.davidsutherlandinc.co…the affiliate site links at the bottom are the other companies we do marketing for. i work with a team of three, another designer, marketing director/copywriter and me.
we have a nice budget, design is fun there.-robbie

no i missed the conference. instead i gave tours of our studio. i had no idea what i was in store for. my boss just asked me on a friday if i was going to be in the office on the weekend because there was going to be people from HOW coming by. no problem, i say. anyhow, i'm just sitting there working and all of a sudden a bus full of people pulls up. freaking crazy! it was bus after bus for three or four hours. people from around the world, wanting me to say something important. it worked out - i'll never forget that conference.
whoa! i just turned 35 at midnight. can i have my mid life crisis now?
- BonSeff0
wow. that must have been nuts!
i wish i was on that bus, it must have cost extra for your valuable insight - JOKING!
i could only imagine
happy b-day my man!
go mavericks!!!
- Duane0
cool robbie! i've seen that photographers book before. it is nice stuff. yeah, everyone does get sucked into neiman's here. i used to do their web site too.
i'll email you the printer contact monday morning. like i said, he's a great guy.
sounds like a fun place. i like the small studio environment too. you've got some good work there. i really like the textile sample book.
- Duane0
haha! valuable insight! that's kind of how i felt as these hong kong designers asked me questions in the midst of a hangover.
btw, my girlfriend work at dick patrick studios as studio manager. heard of him?
- Duane0
seff, we'll continue the rest of this in email. talk to you soon.
louno, you can have your thread back. :)
- lifeinsodium0
no louno can't. this thread is mine. ALL MINE!
muhuhahaha!
- BonSeff0
nope, never heard of dick patrick studios, what's going on there?
- Duane0
he's known for food photography, but he does a lot of studio stuff for us. usually tabletop stuff. for example, we shot all the images here with him:

i hate doing stuff in a rush like that :(soo if u guys still following this thread post some coments , sorry i didnt post anything in 2 hours , took me 2 hours to do that ... damn :(
- BonSeff0
right on louno.! if you match the blue and the red with pantone colors
+black
you have a sweet 2 color job, the card design in real nice too.
people here in the office are always talking about a place to write on a card. i like the reference are you have.
- Louno0
well im not using a 100% white so i guess it couldnt be 2 color , unless i change it to 100% white... cuz anyways it doesnt make much difference ... hmm , ill see .
Uhm were you able to guess that the weird form in the corner was in fack an Ear ... like , "De bouche a oreille " in french means from Mouth to Ear ( but i think the correspondant expression really is from word to mouth ) ... The guy said he wanted something to represent the slogan , soo i didnt really have time to do like a full head with a mouth whispering into a full head with an ear , or ... bah ...im diverting , were u able to tell it was an ear ? lol ...
I feel this isnt good egnough and i hate giving my work to someone when i dont feel its good egnough , makes me mad , i would have done more cards and choose the best , but damn , im soo tired and even if i go to bed now i only have like 4hours of sleep left ! ..
mayday ! lol ... aahhh crap :)
Can you belive this , this guys calls me like at 5pm , i have to go meet him , by the time i get to see him and he explain me what he wants , and i get home , its like 11pm ( i travel with bus ... ) and he wants it for tomorrow ! man wtf why didnt he ask before ... i mean , i feel like i could do better and thats what i dont like ...anyways , im talking waayyyy to much in this post , i should shut up hihih yes thats what happen when i dont get sleep. tsk tsk tsk ... man this post his huge and im too lazy to go and erase some stuff... if u get to the end u deserve like 100$ or sumthing.. ok i shut it. :) read the begining again.hehe
- BonSeff0
Louno, 100% white is your blank paper
- Louno0
thanks , ... but i have , red , black , whitishgrey ... and white . since white isnt a color , i have 3 then. the back of the card arent white , i put some whitishgrey , its not white.
anyways , im making some trim mark and going to bed ... the one thing that is bugging me the most is the TEAM D'IA STAR ... i have to put it cuz its a sponcor just like Montecristo production ... but it just doesnt fit right ...
