watch it at http://www.mk12.com/ click the ninja ...
now my question, which sounds like a question from a little boy, is:
what kind of skills does one need to create things like that? I mean apart from creativity, the technical skills: what applications do you have to know, what kind of education teaches me things like that?
(I'll go to some college this fall, and I'm not totally sure what to learn yet)

I was waiting for NT to discover MK12, I live down the road form them...shall I go ask?
- chook0
maya and after effects dude.
- err0
I believe they used aftereffects but I know in some of thier videos it says they used smoke flame and maya.
If you want to get into motiongrapics learn aftereffects and some 3d apps wouldn't hurt as well.
- JazX0
really, I knew about these guys for a while, some post here sparked my post next door though ;)

Doesn't Flame cost like $50,000 million trillion bucks? Is After Effects a true Pro App like flame? Dunno wat Im talking about

we use off the usual suspects of consumer off the shelf software...
adobe et. al.
maya
combustion seems to do some neat stuff... and a couple here and there pieces of software...we don't own and have never used a flame, flint. smoke, bang, smack, goosh, etc... that shit is expensive...
but really, wouldn't it be great if there was a $150,000 machine named goosh? that would be swell.

Timmy, are you guys hiring? Need another developer/designer in your team?

MK12 rocks my little world. I've been working and teaching AE for 5 years now and just 10 seconds of an MK12 piece would take me two months! "Beautiful Fucking Tits!"
I bow and give thanks for all the inspiration.
- tc_fisher0
thanks krts...
at this moment, we aren't looking to hire... there are only 7 of us kids...
but we always are willing to look at new reels and resumes...
so yeah, send 'em in...

afx and maya but shoot some stuff with a camera too!

and an aquarium tank. please tell me you guys used an aquarium tank, food coloring drops, and a flood light. please.

oh sure... there is just as much or more real world experimentation in front of a camera or on a canvas, with scissors, glue, paint, oils, charcoal, magazines, books, photos, dirt, people, textures, cloth, glass, lights, plexi, smoke, milk, sugar, dust, water, windup tin toys, plastic toys...
if it's all digital, it will look digital... so yeah, i think it goes without saying to just experiment the hell out of ideas in a real world setting and capturing it all with camera, camcorder, pixelvision, tycocam, camera, digital camera, scanner or what ever makes your boat, float...
i was just speaking to the software question and clarifying our use of only off the shelf softwares...

Regarding the hiring question, I just had to ask and I would be happy to send to info about me. Actually I'm good friends with Jake who makes pottery in your building and he's the one who told me all about you guys...I was hoping that one day I might bump into you guys during one of those gallery nights on a Friday...we'll see. Anyways I gotta say that you guys ROCK! and make Kansas City look real good.
